Look at how happy Mugi was to have her own things. That's a small, but very humanizing detail they gave her, you can tell she has a certain longing to live like everyone else, and experiencing something so simple as having her own pencils and notebooks made her very happy. Unfortunately, immediately afterwards, it all proved to be a cruel illusion by Ring-hime and Tsumugi's dream's were shattered. As always, it is the Mugi suffering season.

As PriPara is also celebrating its 10th anniversary, discussions progressed about collaborating, and Tatsunoko Production kindly approached Takara Tomy Arts on our behalf. We received a positive response from Takara Tomy Arts, and after discussions with Bandai, the four companies came together at an early stage to move forward with the project.

I do believe there is a certain sincerity to it. The target age for the Aikatsu! Data Carddass is 7 to 9 years old. After turning ten, many children drift away from anime, and for the 4 to 6 age group Bandai's target audience is PreCure. It couldn't be raised any higher, nor lowered any further, but I felt that PriPara was aiming for a much broader demographic.
>Yoda: Children aged 7 to 9 can be quite challenging, can't they? PriPara initially targeted children aged 7 to 9, but as the anime series continued, its appeal gradually expanded to older and younger audiences.

There was a time, during the anime production of Aikatsu! x PriPara, that someone started singing Kono Uta Toma Reihi, and everyone else got caught up in it and started singing along too. I find it very funny that, after half a season of Ring-hime being completely unreachable and mysterious to the rest of the cast (except to Mii in a couple of grooming incidents), Mugi can just barge into Ring-hime's throne room unannounced and uninvited and there's nothing anyone can do to stop her. There's also something special about the two of them meeting. Its like one ainon said in a past thread, Mugi feels like a premium character.

Personally, I don’t think it’s a good idea to skip to Akarigen. Not only do you skip Akari’s entire background as a sidle, but the original cast features plenty in Akarigen too, so you’re depriving yourself of context and attachment to those character interactions.

OGkatsu has a ton of super fantastic characters and episodes, it’s a bit of a shame to skip them! There’s no need to rush through the series, there’s plenty of time to get through it before the movie BDs release.

I'm sorry ainons, I did consider watching S1 and S2 first, but I'm just not interested enough in Ichigo and co. to watch 100 episodes of them before getting to Sumire and the new cast. It is not about watching Akarigen by the time we have movie BD's; rather, over the past couple of months I've been finding Sumire every now and then in fanart, and I always wondered who she was and wanted to watch her anime, but I never took the time to look into it, until now. I initially gave up upon finding out that she was a main character BUT only after a main cast change 100 episodes into Aikatsu. But then it occurred to me that, surely, the execs in charge of Aikatsu would want to take advantage of the protagonist change to attract new little girls, so the anime should be accessible to those starting with S3. The first episode gives me hope that I'm right: they put the effort in to establish to newcomers that Akari really admires Ichigo, and even told us that Ichigo was who passed Akari on her entrance audition, but with the Ichigo radio show and the next episode preview about being Ichigo's manager I can also see the original cast will still play a role that I won't fully understand. I'm conflicted, but will still go on and see what happens.

And this would be a mistake, because it is the season with the weakest music and weakest performances in the entire series.
Now, if you can appreciate the things it does well, it can be very enjoyable. I think a lot of people misunderstand Mio, for example, and subsequently her relationship with Aine. And in a lot of ways, viewing it first might spare you thinking that a lot of the things/ideas/characters it is essentially revisiting (but worse) are inferior versions of what you've seen before in Aikatsu OG and Stars.

It's still better than Dream Academy in OG, at least.

In Aikatsu everyone's on their own journey, growing as idles in their own way. Idol Katsudou themselves are a collaborative experience, which you can see in how it's a school. In PriPara being an idle is a way to achieve your dreams and be your ideal self. Everyone except certain Hibikis and similar antagonists support that and makes PriPara a welcoming and encouraging place. There aren't a whole variety of ways to grow and achieve idle excellence as that's not PriPara's thing. An example paralleling Akari's praise for Sumire here would be Lala encouraging Love to be the pretty cool confident self she wants to be and not get hung up on how freakishly tall she is.
Now yes, the PriPara cast also includes more cunning and manipulative and evil and Non! and other personalities, but I wouldn't say PriPara has a dearth of positive and encouraging relationships.

I really liked Sumire; no one in PriPara (so far at least) nor in AiPri fits the cool and dignified beauty archetype: I thought Sophie would but she turned out to be an autistic drug addict, Sakura is a massive dork, and Mugi has the looks but is also autistic. Sumire is cool, composed, has a cool title, she brews tea, and she is purple, I always wanted an idle like her.

I'm so hyped for this movie. I'm regretting less and less going to Japan for ~48 hours just to see it.

Considering the weight of responsibility that comes with carrying the feelings of fans of both works, I felt a sense of seriousness.

On the other hand, in PriPara, each idol's individual personality is very distinct. Everyone is freely pursuing their own aspirations, striving to become the person they wish to be. Therefore, in PriPara, while the characters may clash or have differences of opinion, their fundamental feelings are the same, and ultimately they naturally come together. I find it interesting that even if both seiries arrive at the same conclusion, the journey to get there can be entirely different.

>Okawa: Indeed, that might be common to both. It really is everyone's cheerfulness that's providing such a great strength.

Actually, I wasn't involved as staff on the third season of Aikatsu!, known as the Akari Generation, or on PriPara at the time. >Okawa: That's right. Until then, I had been working for another company, so I had no involvement whatsoever. However, even back then, I was simply watching shows like Aikatsu! and PriPara as a regular viewer. After that, I began participating in the production of Aikatsu Stars!, so I did feel that there might be things only a fan's perspective could capture.
>Was the phrase The Miracle Encounter, which is the theme of the film, Director Okawa's suggestion?
>Okawa: Rather than one person proposing it, it was decided on quite naturally during the first script meeting. The whole project itself felt like a miracle to begin with, and so the phrase miracle encounter just came to us quite naturally.

I was also involved from the initial planning stage with Happy Tuning and 'Pretty × Activity', and had the opportunity to witness their gradual development process until they were completed. This time, the music production for this project involved the artists associated with both works taking turns to contribute. For instance, with Happy Tuning, since the composer was Yuki Honda (Arte Refact), who handles music for PriPara, the initial demo that came through had a rather PriPara-like feel to it. But with lyrics by Kodama Saori and arrangement by Nakano Ryota... well, the lyrics and arrangement were handled by the Aikatsu! team, so it just kept incorporating more and more Aikatsu! elements in it, you see.

This time, Tatsunoko Production's CG team included a female staff member who was still a student when the series aired and who enjoyed watching both Aikatsu! and PriPara. Speaking of the fashionable witches, short little article mostly about Love & Berry + AKB48's influence on the two franchises. Nothing new in it that ainon wouldn't already know, but it is interesting that it mentions the seemingly changing demographics of live events for the shows that a few people have remarked on for the new movie. While seiyuu greetings and other similar events were predominantly attended by Aikatsu or Pretty ojisans 10 years ago, today they are trending to have more of a female crowd.
