Taking place several years after Getter Robo Go, Earth is now a post-apocalyptic world. Hayato, now an aging scientist, has completed Professor Saotome's masterpiece, Getter Robo Āḥ. Piloting it are Ryoma's son Takuma, the human-dinosaur Kamui and the younger brother of Tayel, Baku. Alongside the reformed Dinosaur Empire, they fight the insectoid Andromeda Flow Country attacking from across time and space.

Ken Ishikawa was a goddamn genius. I'm in awe at how amazing Getter Robo's story just kept getting better and better with every single chapter. This is the most super a super robot series can get.
Time to rewatch TTGL and see just how much stuff it took from Getter Robo. I also got SRW Y a while ago, hopefully it'll have a decent ending to the Arc storyline.

A reptiloid cyborg Hyakki Empire professor and biomechanics doctor was teaching a class on Emperor Gore I, known dinosaur.

The professor was visibly shaken, and dropped his chalk and copy of The Lost World. He stormed out of the room crying those dinosaur tears. The same tears dinosaurs cry for the "oppressed" (who today live in such luxury that most own magma heaters) when they jealously try to claw justly earned surface from deserving humans. There is no doubt that at this point our professor, Hadrosaurus Tanaka, wished he had been elevated by the forces of evolution to become more than a sophist retiloid professor. He wished so much that he had a Getter Robo to Getter Beam himself from embarrassment, but he himself had petitioned against them!

The students applauded and all enlisted in the Getter Army that day and accepted Saint Dragon as their lord and savior. A Getter Dragon named "Total Bug Death" flew into the room and perched atop the Getter Tomahawk and shed a tear on the chalk. The Principles of Biology was read several times, and Getter Emperor himself showed up and enacted absolute battle for suvival across the galaxy.

The professor lost his tenure and was fired the next day. He died of Getter radiation and was absorbed by Getter for all eternity.

Ken Ishikawa was planning on continuing which is why the original issue releases had "END OF PART 1". The reason it initially went on hiatus was because the manga Arc was getting published in went bankrupt. Then one day, when Ken Ishikawa was hanging out with Go Nagai and other classic mangakas, he had a sudden heart attack and died on the spot. He never fully elaborated on how the story was supposed to continue, there's hints that there were notes here and there but no fully written plan like Miura had for Berserk. Getter Arc has been left like this ever since.
Imagine if Dragon Ball abruptly ended when Goku transformed into Super Saiyan in front of Freeza. It's pretty fucking depressing that someone with such a unique and 10/10 art style and writing like Ishikawa ends like this with pretty much 90% of his other works never being properly translated. Part of the reason why I'm doing nihongo grinding.

Incorrect.

This is the original magazine ending of Arc. It says Getter Robo Arc Part 1 End. Super Robot Magazine has been shut down but it was just one of many magazine labels by Futabasha which is Getter Robo's publisher. Ishikawa and his editor Nakashima were going to continue Getter Robo Arc in a new magazine.

Also when Nakashima says Takuma vs Kamui is the ultimate destination, that's a vague enough statement that it just means that the rest of Arc is about Takuma vs Kamui. It's not a specific denotation of the story ending in one chapter or one volume or whatever. There could have been another entire part of the story about their conflict as long as the first part. Your translation of 終着点 is too finite given its actual definition.

You might disagree with the definitions but get the idea. It just seems like getter is not fully consistent between series and I can't really understand what Ishikawa was doing with it. Was it a concept that evolved in his mind so he changed it in each installation? Were the differences concious for some story or thematic reason? Was the holy war of getter something to be fought against in the future or was it going to be recontextualized?

I had been thinking about this as well, it just seems to me that Getter Emperor was a self-fulfilled prophecy. The ayy lmaos going back in time to destroy Earth to stop Emperor from existing just kept pushing Getter to get stronger and stronger and humanity to desperately keep fighting for their survival to deal with the new threats, which eventually led to Emperor's creation. Hell, I think Kamui's uprising is what sealed their fate and led to Emperor's creation by the end of Arc.

My theory is that Musashi told the Getter teams a lot of half-truths. He seems to deny them vital information and the way he treated Kamui seemed very manipulative especially when he supposedly knows about what happens in the past (i.e. Kamui's betrayal). He also never mentions Getter Dragon at all which is a huge omission and he says that there are no memories of Earth after Shin Getter flew to Mars but we as readers know about Getter Saint Dragon on Earth that Ryouma met.

The anime was originally advertised as going beyond the manga's ending and concluding the story, but in the end, it really had just more "filler" scenes, especially in this part of the manga when they return from the future, tying the scenes in we in the manga together, rather than actually continuing the story. It does have ONE extra cliffhanger beyond the manga's, which is kind of crazy, because it doesn't actually resolve the manga's cliffhanger, it just jumps from the manga's cliffhanger to a new original cliffhanger (with the credits playing between the two scenes).

There's always back and forth talks in recent years about subversion, and whether it has value in and of itself, or if it's just a gimmick, but reading Getter Robo I realized this has to be one of the few series where it's actually pulled off well. It really felt like the first time I read manga like Dragon Ball or Devilman, where there was a quality beyond merely what was transpiring on the story, that little something that made me pause and go "ah, so this is why this was so influential in the medium". I'm quite happy to say I'll remain a Getter believer for life.

Maybe Ryoma information about the future change it and this "future" is another timeline here musashi is trying to change things again to ensure getter emperor existence.

He wasnt absorbed, he stayed to learn everything and not losing himself, and he finally understood.
If anything, the final part of fixing the emperor was going to be Arc, but the manga cancellation and ishikawa's death years after never came into fruition.

But it wasn't. Magazine labels get scrapped all the time and manga series transfer between them. For example Berserk was originally published in Monthly Animal House before that magazine was cancelled and Berserk was moved to Young Animal.

Super Robot Magazine was just one of Futabasha's magazine labels and Futabasha itself never cancelled Arc since it was planned to transfer it to a new label but Futabasha was in a financial crisis at the time and were reorganizing their business. Ishikawa went on to do some other one volume series in the meantime and then died in 2006 just two years after Arc had first gotten published in tankobon form and less than a year before the ultimately final revised edition of Getter Robo Saga had been printed that was the first edition to incorporate the then still recent Arc series into it. Arc was still very much an active project for Futabasha.
