While I'm a bit sad that episodes 44~49 are basically a victory lap with a new level of villain and a pretty needless escalation of evil, I think the rest of the show 1~43 was really good. I actually think that the change in focus and tone after Fortune joins up is acceptable and fits the story told within this span of episodes (ignoring 44~49). Hime's outlandish and not Cure-like behavior largely rights itself (this is not to say she loses her charm or her edge) and the theme of love and the many shapes it takes comes to the forefront.
I think that all of the love angles, even the controversial love triangle(s) that form serve a story where Mirage is not being manipulated by anyone else, and it is just her pain from one of love's many possible courses that drives her to evil (as has many a woman throughout history). The joys of love and recovering from the pain of love are shown remarkably well for a cartoon designed to peddle cheap plastic garbage to your imouto - and even Megumi being brokenhearted in the end despite walking away a hero was really cool to see. This would have been an extremely cool and mature ending had Toei the testicular fortitude to go through with it, and in my mind, Ep44 is exactly where the show "should" end, just without the appearance of Red (and, well, pretending he didn't appear in previous episodes either).
I think that without the additional villain, without the Red storyline, Happiness Charge could potentially be one of the best Pretty Cure seasons. I actually think that we see how Toei learned from this the very next season with Princess's considerably more nuanced ending, which is why for me Go Princess is basically not de-thronable from the top spot of the "orthodox" Pretty Cures.

Anyway, Happiness Charge isn't as bad as people claimed, and is in fact quite good. I don't feel like typing anymore or else I'd go on about the various abandoned plot threads and underdeveloped (good) ideas like Making Them Wishes or International Cures. The strong parts of the show reach out hard. It's a shame it couldn't just end when it was at its height and had to devalue itself a bit in the tail end, but even that's not AS BAD as people made me think it would be.

Suite is great. It might give GoPri a run for its money when it comes to conventional seasons.
Also, there is no way Megumi would have stay broken-hearted. Seiji would have manned-up on his own. I think they mostly tied up everything alright with the victory lap, and the final battle when they fight in the space between the two planets looks cool, and they get to bring in the international Cures and Cure Mirage herself as a support battery. To me, that makes it worth it.

Yes, your bad taste has been very apparent from the start. Hime was the best part of HaCha and the shift away from her and her drama was horrible. The love triangles were badly done and Megumi's whole motivation being thrown away was one of the most badly written things I've seen in Precure. Speaking of things that were thrown away, Hime's whole motivation was given a grand total of two seconds in a freeze frame shot. That was pathetic.

I also didn't really notice that HaCha had bad writing, although it might have helped that I'm pretty bad at Japanese so my brain didn't have the resources it needed to think critically about things.

The problem with HS is that it's both an anniversary season, and it should've been a slam dunk with its straightforward hero theme, it's something timeless but the main writer had some weird philosophy about not being preachy and that heroes should "do rather than say", but that isn't even reflected in the show itself, it needed more scenes like the Maho2 intro with Mirai helping a burning building.

Can you post the scene where this happens? Because in the actual show they just walk away and don't mention Battamonda again until his reappearance as Monda.
