They made this into an anime, taking very superficial elements from Journey to the West. It's rather successful and the name Goku is known to every continent on the planet, from rich to poor countries. They're still milking this franchise even with the author's already dead
Now tell me how you propose to make a new adaptation of Journey to the West to leave any legacy worth a dime - if at all?

On the topic of a Journey to the West adaptation, FGO's version of Tang Sanzang isn't just another random anime genderbend into a cute girl. It's because it's common in Japanese adaptation for Tang Sanzang to be a female character or portrayed by an actress and it started from the iconic 1978 Japanese drama adaptation. Apparently it's also a tradition in Chinese opera for the character to be portrayed by a female actor. Honestly, it makes way more sense for Tang Sanzang to be female since he basically already fills a female character role. Think about it. A female Tang Sanzang who's very attractive and spends most of her time being a damsel in distress. She keeps getting captured by monsters that want to devour her and is constantly getting rescued by the heroes. She has delicious flesh that monsters want to eat (in fact, there's a legend among monsters that consuming her flesh will make you immortal) which is typically a characteristic for pretty young women and girls.
