I loved the 2nd episode! Definitely better than the first.
Honestly I was never really expecting Ginpachi to blow up or anything. I'm just enjoying seeing them all back for a nice fun spin-off

Today's episode was alright. It had some nice moments.

I watched the first episode on niconico and it was okay not really something I would watch every week, maybe wait until a dozen episodes are out and then binge watch it while doing something else.

I'm surprised how good ep 2 was. The test was absolutely hilarious and felt like something the gorilla could have written.

I've been waiting for punchlines this entire episode and I'm just not seeing it, I think this show needs to stray away from being too close to the source material and just rely on the anime teams humor like in the first 4 minutes of the 1st episode, the only part I had a good laugh at was Katsura's confession segment

Significantly better than Witch Watch at least. But not that great so far. Many jokes miss for me. Like, random students shouting Krillin's attack for unknown reason is a great setup but then there's not some ridiculous question but that's what they are told to do literally.

I think it might get better as the series progresses, but they're already showing skits out of order from its source material (plus bumpled takasugi's introduction up) and they mentioned there will be more anime-original content, so we'll have to wait and see how this progresses

Back to the confession booth, Hijikata was complaining about him being a student to Ginpachi as the teacher when the 2 were equal in Gintama, there should have been a classic arguing of back and forth between Hijikata and Ginpachi about their importance
The ending of the confession booth felt like it should have ended with Ginpachi flipping his shit about being handed the weight of expectations calling back to the first episode.
Ginpachi himself needs to start losing his cool a lot more like Gintoki did
I think they're holding back too much at the moment, they need to really let loose.

I mainly agree with your last point, he really does. But the first one can't be helped thanks to the runtime imo, otherwise they probably could've added it but as Hijikata himself pointed out:
they have to restrict how they(the students) interact with Ginpachi, and how Ginpachi interacts with them without being disrespectful of the "teacher above all" jp class mindset. Of course, that should encourage them to toe the line with it since people like /Gintama/ for a reason, but I think this is showing an interesting difference between how Gintoki would react towards certain situations vs how Ginpachi is reacting. if that makes sense.
They do need to let loose but for me personally, I'm more worried about whether they're going to make a reference to the original series every episode or not

I'm glad we're already doing multiple segment episodes. I always loved that type of pacing cause it didnt allow a joke to grow stale by going for the whole 20 minutes.
