I could write a whole essay about it but it all boils down to "not only does nothing happen but the plot actually moves backwards so that they can spend the runtime returning to where it started (but a more retarded version)." The first movie also has a significant chunk of the runtime filled by the weird B-plot social media dev characters basically just reacting to what just happened in the A-plot scene and restating the obvious but without really doing anything about it. The most useless, dragging filler I have ever seen. It was a slog to get through even while on my phone the whole time.
