Interesting how this chapter reframes Asa's tendency to trip. On one hand she tripped on purpose given the chance that her father wouldn't survive, she didn't do it on her mother's request mind you, she did it on her own volition so she could get rid of a presumably abusive father...even though he lost his leg to protect her (according to Asa).

I doubt 6 years old Asa thought about insurance, she probably just felt threatened by her father but then she played the role of an accomplice to her mother's crime but seemingly distressed. She was an accomplice to the death of a family member for her own benefit.

When we analyze the other instance where Asa tripped, running away from the typhoon devil, her tripping resulted in the death of her mother...it could be that Asa wanted to get rid of her mother, either to punish her for what she did to their father or to effectivelly pull the same scam twice (Slippin' Asa).

But then, every other instance where Asa tripped (at the birthday party, at the athetlics, with Bucky, with Yuko, in PS's facility) they were all instances where Asa had absolutely nothing to gain from tripping, in fact, she only lost in these interactions - the party and athletics stunted her social life, killing Bucky robbed her of finally fitting in with her class and further ostracized her, with Yuko it nearly got them killed and so did in PS.

I think Asa is looking to punish herself for what she did, her guilt is genuine, else she wouldn't be able to create strong weapons -- this tendency became deeply ingrained in her mind as a way to punish herself for her crimes so she can never achieve the happiness that she believes she doesn't deserve. This has somber implications in regards to her relationship with Denji.

If Asa doesn't snap out of this tendency of hers, Yoru will destroy the whole world. This chapter made extremely clear how Yoru is a shadow of Asa's mother influence over Asa's actions. Yoru is a hopelessly selfish devil, sometimes pragmatic but every action of hers incidentally comes to "their collective benefit", which is really just Yoru looking out for herself, pretty much identical to Asa's mother. In hindsight, Asa's mother's parting comments over the matter imply that she killed her husband out of jealously first, then tried to retroactively justify it as pragmatically improving her daughter's life. I think Yoru mirrors Asa's mother because Asa, in some capacity, sees herself as the same as her mother because of what she "helped" her accomplish.

I think the story is leading up to Asa finally breaking free of the grip that her mother holds over her life. Yoru claiming ownership over Asa's body and hijacking it to do as she pleases is a symbollic representation of said control, her actions are no longer her own and she stands as a mere bystander watching as Yoru (her mother) enacts horrific acts through her and "because of her", leading her to suicidal guilt.

It ties to Asa's themes surrounding self-confidence and the realization that she indeed could control Yoru at any moment to claim back control over herself and become "whole", this would be the birth of Yoru and the answer to the constant symbolism of "cages" that surround Asa's character.

Do you actually consider Nayuta to be Makima? Not saying this in a condescending way but as a genuine question.
