Nah, straight man characters aren’t usually the main focus of CGDCT anime for a reason — they suck all the fun and spontaneity out of the story. The whole appeal of the genre comes from the chaotic chemistry between quirky personalities, and when you center the narrative on the straight man, everything becomes too grounded, predictable, and repetitive. Every joke ends up relying on the same tired rhythm of “weird thing happens straight man reacts by kicking another girl in the stomach,” which kills the carefree energy that makes these shows so enjoyable in the first place.
Imagine how much worse Yuru Yuri or K-On would’ve been if Yui or Mio were the main characters constantly scolding everyone. The straight man role works best as a supporting piece to keep things from going completely off the rails - not as the center of attention. Making them the main character just flattens the tone and turns the humor into a repetitive cycle of “look how retarded my friends are".
