Definitely not. Mha just has way more mainstream appeal in its concept. A fairly stereotypical shonen with superheroes in a highschool setting was ingenious for appealing to a wide audience. It’s surprising no one else ever thought of this in hindsight. Also helps that horokoshi is pretty good with art and character designs.

Superheroes were considered lame before Iron Man, and MHA came out not long after the first avengers movie. It had really good timing. There's also the fact that the premise is pretty much X-Men at a time the franchise was dormant due to rights issues.

I think the people who thought that and the people who like Mha are two different groups. They would probably think it’s lame too. Superheroes kinda went out of style in live action Hollywood adaptations for a little while but even if mha came out earlier I think it still would’ve been fairly popular. But the modern anime adaptation definitely helped since anime in general is way more mainstream and the show is a fairly simple gateway drug into anime for normies.

It's dragged down by bad fight IQ and godawful characters. No, I'm not saying MHA is intelligent about fights (fucking star and stripe was tactically full of nonsense) but it does know how to be melodramatic and flashy about it. Gachiakuta just doesn't. It can't build excitement and it's not particularly interesting. The author's also obsessed with Jabber who's annoying as fuck and has no charisma or appealing aspects to him. The main strengths are SEXO female characters like Amo and Riyo. That's it. Nothing else is any good. Action scenes fall flat. Emotional scenes fall flat. Story is meandering. Riyo is perfect though.

Second fight
Standard, but I like the hallucination flashback into Jabber getting shot conclusion. Pretty much the only standard fight in the whole arc though.
third fight:
Barely a fight. Part of a car chase and also not 1on1 but also kinda is.
