Anything else like Knights of Sidonia out there? I absolutely would not call it hard sci-fi but it at least tries in places and honestly that's all I care about. I kinda live under a rock and don't try new things much so help me out here anons

Universal Century (can't speak on the others) Gundam kinda is hard sci-fi with magic layered on top.
The older installments are certainly of their time but it's actually quite remarkable how well considered everything all is.

the space battles in starship operators might scratch that itch for you

Evangelion is pretty good from a technical perspective and how the designs are very 'realistic' for what logistics you would need to support giant fucking flesh robots.

Plus, mechanical designs and visual displays/graphs are some of the best in anime
