That doesn't necessarily mean every joke it's gonna land anon. Gotta admit it, Arakawa humor it VERY hit and miss, like Hirano with Hellsing or Drifters.
You have legitimately funny moments, and then you have moments like OP where it simply is "le funnee faces just because" and it feels stupid rather than funny. Not to mention the fucking whiplash; one of the main issues with FMA in general, but mostly the original manga, has always been the sudden jokes or silly faces in the middle of completely serious moments.
