one of the fears besides the fear of QUALITY rearing its ugly head is the idea that it will be adapted straight from the manga, which as i said before in a previous thread, the narrative for especially what would have been s2 in the original anime before it went a different direction is not really made for anime, it's made for storybook reading for imaginative kids because of its meta based on such a device

also the anime was very hikaru holic and gave her romantic feelings the manga didn't really give which gave her some needed drama tension

It's not that I'm so violently or profoundly against the idea of a remake but they also choose things that simply don't need one. You're not gonna improve on the old anime. There's a lot of shows that might actually benefit from one, series that never felt complete or like they lived up to their potential but they always go for the shows that were already good. I wonder if someday we will ever see a proper adaptation of Silent Mobius. They tried three times to push this franchise, first with two movies that are vaguely connected to each other (the first one of which looks astonishingly good), and then with an anime series that was poorly animated, looks like ass most of the time, and ended on a cliffhanger that was never resolved. You'd think Alita would have been an obvious choice because of the movie bringing attention to things. It's not even like it's a dead IP either the manga is still being made. But yes this is what I really hate about remakes in general. The idea that the new version will effectively replace the old one is dreadful. It's happened with a lot of video games already and the more it happens and the more we have to specify year or THE OLD ONE it feels like art is losing it's value. And perhaps this is just my own paranoia but I do feel like the more it happens the less likely the originals will continue to be preserved. The old Kenshin never even got a blu ray release.

So it took them 1 year to release another promotional pic and a promise of "sometime in 2026". Fucking Ranma remake was announced after the rayearth remake and came out months later, we're now in its second season.

First season is also going to be fucking boring since the original anime adapted the manga fairly well (in b4 but they killed persea or innouva is not canon). THey did a great job.
But second season without Nova is going to be worse, second season both anime and manga sucked even if they were very different. I actually hope the second season doens't adapt the manga and does its own thing.

Personally I think the story was actually BETTER for killing Presea. Having the girls actually face a tragedy or two on their quest adds to the weight of things. I like the manga but honestly it's kind of dry. Or at the very least very minimal.

Sailor moon Crystal was literally greenlit I'm 2012 for the sole porpuse of Gatekeeping the rights away from other companies, because Toei didn't really cared about it but didn't wanted TMS or Madhouse to have a shot at it, they literally just became the kids anime company of BANDAI and didn't wanted to put focus away from PreCure, so they didn't worked on this thing for a year and a half, JoJo anime came out and Stardust Crusaders came out, and meanwhile Toei still had NOTHING, and judging by how derpy the show looked when it finally came out in 2014 by weekly, it was obvious production was rushed in less then 5 months.

Mahoujin Guru Guru's remake was faithful to the manga pacing, while the 90s adaption was full of filler that bloated the watch time.

Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibouken did nothing to change Pop's character negatively (if anything he got a glow-up) and most of the fanservice of the original 90s adaption was anime-original rather than from the manga.

I'm excited. I loved the manga and hated the original anime. It was a poor adaptation that made story-altering changes. The art wasn't always the best either. I hope it encourages more people to read the original manga at least.

I'll obviously watch it, but I don't feel too much excitement. early on they do reuse some stock shots of the girls main attacks but is not nearly as bad or repetitive as Sailormoon, and we get to see many times when those are animated from different angles, also the girls usually use their weapons to attack monsters, but you stil get zoom out panning shots.

They do show more grit and violence then Sailormoon, and yes, the girls can get wrecked quite often.

Started watching it. For TMS, the animation is surprisingly good. A lot of it is very static, but they're definitely trying to make the frames look as good as possible despite that. Reminds me of Studio Deen's stuff from that era.

Heres the thing, TMS wanted to make a Shenmue anime to advertise Shenmue 2's Xbox port, but because Shenmue 2 wasn't getting a PS2 port (since Xbox wasn't selling in Japan) and Yuji Naka had alot of control and leeway over Sega we got Sonic X instead, it wouldn't be until 2022 that we would get a Shenmue anime from them, and thats only because Wellesley Wild wouldn't let TMS get Animaniacs back when they needed it the most and forced them to do a Shenmue anime that nobody asked for (Warner Bros owned Crunchyroll at that time) while Animaniacs got butchered to death.

Plus TMS lost interest in doing a Shenmue anime by that point anyway, and because it bombed so badly TMS refuses to do any more Sega projects such as a rejected 4th season of Sonic X (they did the cut scenes to Sonic Superstars to make them shut up about making more Sonic X) and a gag orientated Golden Axe series (which ended up at Titmouse).

I will say that the anime versions of Joy amd Xiuyin were hot, and I liked the OP.

Chibis stopped being a thing in modern anime because they were a cost-saving measure during the age of cel animation. Chibis don't have to be properly animated, they just kinda waddle across the screen and animate like slideshows. In an era when we don't do cels anymore, that stuff doesn't save much money anymore, drawing full scenes is not any different from drawing chibis, both go through the same digital process. That's why we see many PowerPoint presentations, but no chibis.
I think only Trigger still uses those old cel techniques in shows like Panty and Stocking, but mostly as a stylistic choice.
