How do japanese people named after anime characters deal with it? They must be mocked all the time. I guess it would even be worse when a name that already existed became associated with anime like Naruto and Sasuke. I couldn't imagine being a naruto during the height of its popularity. It's like those kids in the west named after Game of Thrones characters.

only outside of Japan.
that's like saying you can't name your kid Michael because people will think you named him after Michael Jordan.

Sakura is a very common name that's in a ton of anime and manga. A Japanese person named Sakura is probably no more mocked than someone in the US with the same name as a big character in media even if it's a name used in a ton of other stuff. What I think more about is how many Japanese names are just normal words, which fits Sakura too. It's apparently common in a lot of languages other than English (not the common English names aren't similar if you look at their origins but these days they're removed from their original meanings by a lot) but it seems it could be confusing.

Sakura isn’t any different than being named Willow, Rose, etc.
