You should get around to it. It's rather good. MC is a solid character with motivations, goals and arc who's not a complete push over for everyone around him. The girls are all well defined and have good chemistry not just with him but amongst themselves as well. And perhaps best of all, as far as a one cour light novel adaptation goes, it actually feels like it ends with a sense of accomplishment rather than just being a cliffhanger. There's a few dangling threads but they feel more sequel bait. There's a whole civil war plot that's finished with a solid beginning middle and end.

Honestly Issei isn't even that powerful for a good amount of the series since he couldn't really use his powers. Usually fights were something along the lines of the girls and one guy doing most of the fighting and then he gets his single hit in critical situations. He had no big dick destructive magic specialty, but the unique magic he made was a nullification spell field that prevents any magic being activated in its vicinity. Both for allies and enemies. After which he just proceeds to cast fist on most opponents. He was essentially a nerd that specialized in shoving other nerds into lockers.

That's the general premise, and there's a couple of twists and turns so I'm not spoiling everything. It handles the "reincarnations are their own people and not their previous lives" angle with far more grace than Aquarion ever did. Each heroine reincarnation inherited an aspect of the original heroine's personality so you retroactively learn about the original incarnation through MC's interaction with the present day heroines, which are intentionally interspersed with flashbacks. It's a pretty fun read.

Battle harems were bad for one reason; there was only ever one good girl. When you try to make too many options, you inevitably make one superior to the others. Battle harems were the lowest of the low in this regard as the harem aspect was just an unwanted distraction from whichever girl in whichever series was objectively the best. There are exceedingly rare exceptions to this, like Highschool DxD, but the overwhelming majority absolutely fell into this issue. Battle harems are likely never going to become a mainstream trend again because every single trope and convention it introduced as a subgenre was absorbed by Isekaishit. There's always going to be a few odd ones made that are "pure" battle harem/battle school harem to satisfy the nostalgic otaku market, but as things stand Isekai has made it redundant. If you still want to read a Battle Harem series that has withstood these changes and is basically a living fossile, just read To Aru Majutsu no Index and its spinoffs. The main story is over 60 volumes long already.
