I agree, every other thread lately there’s someone saying the series shouldn’t have gone beyond Boros, and the story lost its way. Even though the webcomic’s climax with Garou is the best part of the series so far with other great moments after. It is interesting how ONE does the balancing act of his less “moe” and more off color sense of humor and pokes fun at the common ideas repeated in this genre but is still displaying a sincere appreciation of shonen style action and storytelling. He genuinely does seem to care about these characters and tries to give them development.

I think it’s part of the fatigue with Murata and the manga. I’ve seen a lot of people say that he doesn’t understand that it’s a parody of shonen and turned into what it was satirizing with his characterization, increase in spectacle, and power creep. But if anything the manga is more “unserious” than the webcomic currently. Everything is presented way more goofily than the webcomic. The orochi redraw with Saitama bathing in lava, serious fart, tatsumaki and fubuki’s degeneration as characters, and the fact the comedy is way more standard of what you would see in mainstream anime. I think what he really lost is the dna of how the story and characters are presented.

As for the webcomic itself, I love it as always but I think this latest arc is struggling with its own scale because most of the characters don't really have a presence and have to basically be re-introduced one after the other or/and have had their development offscreened. This is something that bothered me in MP100 war arc as well... Maybe ONE will get it right once the manga catches up.

In the manga the psychic sisters arc Tatsumaki is essentially a tsundere who is flirting with Saitama during their fight and Fubuki has almost entirely made into a joke from how pitiful and goofy she is portrayed because she wants to prove herself. In the webcomic Tatsumaki is a sociopath who doesn’t respect fubuki enough to think she doesn’t need to be codependent on her and she is disgusted by Saitama standing up to her. Fubuki is generally more dignified and has a level of genuine resentment towards her sister for taking control of her entire life up to point. The manga completely sanded down their dynamic and personalities them to make them more palatable as waifus. I’m not against fanservice or sexy characters, but I don’t know what to call it if not degenerated.
