Things like this is why anime sometimes frustrates me so much
Also the ending of the 12 episode anime that stops when it was about to get interesting so it becomes some sort of cliffhanger ad for the next season
And the next season? Sometimes it comes 2 years after but it seems most of the time it's nowhere be seen even years after the fact...

I am pretty sure that has been the average shounen series experience whenever the series hits a point where they are running out of manga material and have to come up with shit and quick for the weeks episode. Do they still have a whole episode dedicated to a recap of the entire series until then? Been a while since I last watched any shounen series.

They've stopped making endless series, One Piece is the only one left. All the newer series from Jump etc get shorter seasons with significant breaks in between.
In general there's very few series with more than two consecutive cours.
Recap episodes however are more present than ever due to strained production schedules.

OPs pic is a little overexagurated, but still I would say there are a lot of anime that only have around 50% original content per episode. Western cartoons tend to have more. Shorter intros/outros, little to no flashbacks or recycled scenes etc.

Shounen series are always about the fights. Sometimes the music is nice as well. You don't really need anything else than that, and it's just easier to cut costs on new episodes when you can have a flashback or several to save up for the next big fight scene.

I recent watched the special edition. They omitted the recap episodes but the amount of repeated content was higher than other Gundam series aside from the first one and possibly G.

This only happens for series that don’t want to catch up to the manga. Dragon ball had characters power up and scream for minutes to pad out the run time, Toei can’t even be bothered to adapt 2 chapters per episode for OP. This is why the WIT One Piece will be superior and more enjoyable

when you look at it, 1 episode is barely enough to establish a story especially for a new IP, and skipping the OP/ED doesn't really help.

I just remembered that Katanagatari had 12 double length episodes.
Made in Abyss pulled a switcheroo where the last episode is the one that's double length. you just know the studio is great when they do it.

I work in nipland, it hasn't been true in over a decade. The Japanese were desperate to change the overall perception on their work habits, so the government cracked down hard on businesses overworking their employees, most people go home after their hours are over. Obviously forced overtime still exists, and you're still required to finish your work in 8 hours or spend longer to get it done, but no one (except animators I guess) is staying at work for 16 hours and sleeping under their desks. Nobody's overworking to death in large quantities like foreigners claim they do. Not anymore at least.
