Over a decade ago this was argued between Holo vs Horo since the first of us had Horo as the fan translation since Japanese doesn't distinguish "L" and "R" and it sounded to western ears like they were saying it with an R. I enjoyed it equally to the original. Importantly, it adapts the part of the novels that the original skipped.
The overall production quality is higher than the original. There are, however, some uses of 3DCG which some did not like - only for inanimate objects, though, which I'm generally OK with - it's using 3DCG for living beings where I draw the line.
