Wanted to check Avenger out because I've been watching Bee Train originals since last year (rewatched Noir last year to honor Tarako and finished Madlax months after that, as well as El Cazador de la Bruja weeks ago).

Low budget adaptation of two one-shots that Monkey Punch did in the early 80s. It's about two detectives (one male, one female) that share a body after an accident, and swap places every 24 hours at midnight.

It was fine but I think I probably would have forgotten about it completely if it weren't for Monkey Punch's involvement and the fact that the male main character happens to be named Ranma.

Basic throughline:

Ancient alchemists summon a demon that teaches them how to make immortality juice, but they start killing each other over it and it all falls apart.

Years later, one of the few surviving alchemists figures out how to make more of the immortality juice but everything goes to shit and not only does it end up in the hands of a mobster and some other people but he ends up getting killed

Years later even after that, several different groups including mobsters, thieves, an assassin and a serial killer all cross paths in a giant violent clusterfuck on the same train that is getting robbed/attacked by them all at the same time. Some of the people involved in this are carryovers from the previous story or are otherwise immortal.

This is bookended and held in a framing device of characters investigating the events of the train mess after the fact, trying to figure out what happened, who is who, and what the fuck else.

Not everything is connected to everything else, but each of the storylines is connected to the others by the throughline of the immortals.

i love gratuitious horseshit like this, the manga was pretty fun and i only really watched the anime for the G gup torture nurse scenes of which there was not enough and they were naturally toned down. What confused me the most about the entire IP is there is not one single panty shot in the entire thing, despite the outfits and acrobatics on display.

Not a bad show in the slightest, perhaps too many recaps. I'd be surprised if more than 10 people have even heard of it.
