Imagine if it was revealed in the very last chapter that Aqua could mind control and influence people through time. Now imagine if the one thing he did with this power was make sure Ai died because it just had to happen that way. That's AoT's ending, it goes beyond being bad and goes out of its way to introduce some retarded power that makes the entire series that took place make no sense.

OnK ending was consequential to both Hacka's endgoal and state of mind.
There was never a chance for that to be happy or bittersweet at best. You should have been aware avout that since the moment Mengo called his ending full despair

OnK was always meant to have a "everything was meaningless, life sucks dick and goes on, carry with the consequences of your decisions" end in a mean-spirited way. Ruby becoming Ai 2.0, Akane losing her shit and Kana getting PTSD from losing Aqua were all planned by the traumatized incel author.

As much Karl was a meh villain compared to Dio, he was defeated in an honest, exciting, and creative way.
Not through asspulling exact same power. Like, if you really needed a deus ex machine to get yourself out of time stopping, couldn't Dio be sabotaged due to his connection to Jotaro's mother's Stand? At least that could be meaningful, given that saving her was the reason for the entire journey
Putting aside that Dio had none of his Part 1 guile. He was the most disappointing part of Part 3.

Think of all the merch and money created, just to have another stereotypical harem where a bunch of girls are all waiting for one guy instead of just treating it as a work relation and finding their own BFs which is what realistically would happen, it would be coherent with that world.
