It’s hard to enjoy anime and manga because of how normalized rape culture and the male gaze are in the community. Any attempt to appreciate a female character’s skills or personality gets buried under sexual comments - it’s insulting that breasts are noticed more than character depth or strength.
Characters like Jiraiya are excused as “perverts,” even though their actions (groping, spying, harassment) are treated as jokes instead of what they are: violations. Why is sexual harassment considered comedy?
Female characters are often introduced through fanservice rather than substance. In Demon Slayer, male Hashiras get quirky, fun intros, while the female Hashira appears in a bath scene. In Code Geass, women wear revealing outfits for no reason.
The fandom often reinforces this objectification. In places like the One Punch Man subreddit, fans obsess over sexualizing female characters while ignoring the decline in writing and characterization. Women in anime are too often treated as rewards or eye candy instead of real characters.
