I started watching anime because a weird friend of mine recommended me some stuff back in 2016 (yes, this was like the second non-Miyazaki anime I liked) and I thought it was great. Anime was still considered weird in the area I was in back then. I've heard there still are anti-anime holdouts where people get bullied for watching anime, but they're dying out rapidly.
