From what i have been told and understand, the behind the scenes story of the One Punch Man anime goes like this
(and keep in mind this is all stuff I've read online so who knows if any of this is accurate):
>The company Bandai Namco owns the rights to the OPM anime.
>When Bandai decided to make the One Punch Man anime they chose Studio MadHouse to make the animation
>MadHouse hired Shingo Natsume as the director
>Natsume is a veteran of the industry who is friends with almost everyone, including other very talented animators
>When Natsume started working on what today is season 1 he used his talent and connections to make OPM season 1 as good as it looks despite the fact that MadHouse had a normal average budget to make the anime
>The anime becomes a massive success
>Bandai wants season 2 right now
>Natsume moves on to other projects because he does not work for MadHouse, he is a freelancer
>MadHouse does not want to make OPM season 2 without Natsume because they know it will be shit so they tell Bandai to wait a bit
>Bandai gets impatient and says "fuck Natsume" and gives OPM season 2 to another studio which ends up being JC Staff
>JC Staff signs contract with Bandai
>JC Staff does not have their own in-house Natsume-level talent so season 2 looks like shit
>Bandai cannot take the OPM anime rights away from JC Staff because of the contract they signed
And so we arrive at our current dilemma
Assuming all of this is true
(I dont work in the industry and this is all hearsay ive been told over the years)
I don't understand why can't JC Staff hire Natsume
It's been basically 10 years since season 1 released
There's no way the man has been fully booked for the past decade and he can't be that expensive to hire because MadHouse hired even though they had an average budget for OPM season 1
