Cause it looks like a lame nostalgia cash grab. Fancy Lala was 27 years ago, this style of anime fell out of fashion a long time ago and the trailer showed nothing we haven't already seen done already by the classics.

The point of those franchises with a huge legacy is that parents and their kids can watch together, parents also feel more willing to spend money on the toys.

I looked under this tweet and it seems like even Kamen Rider or other shows for kids got commercials like this in their timeslot, so it sounds like a nothing burger.

I was surprised by just how funny Creamy Mami was and that Yuu was essentially a feral little girl who went around biting people. There's even an episode where a magical Mami double ruins her reputation by starring in gravure photoshoots. Not sure that this series is going to have anything like that, it'll probably be too sanitised.

Last year had a three episode romance arc where a first Cure gets an official boyfriend. This year a Cure just obtained a new power up through the power of love for her crush. And yet people have been bitching about their 4 year age gap even though he only sees her platonically (and is gay as hell for his old friend).

Princession doesn't have any romance in it despite one of the boys trying to seduce the MC in one episode. The boys are pretty popular (relative to the show) as their own thing though.

We've had far more ridiculous het age gaps before (in one series we had canonical ossan/teen girl, teen girl -> adult man, adult man -> baby), and the movie this year had the resident shipper character officially acknowledge the 18yo adult woman Cure/12yo shota bird Cure pair. The push back against what is currently a very one sided romance this year has been silly.

They've done a good job setting up their relationship as people who better each other, and his fondness for her is of narrative importance, even if it isn't the same kind of fondness she feels for him. For that alone, I can't see the show outright shutting her feelings down, especially after how they introduced the new power up as a physical manifestation of their bond.

It would be stupid to write a Precure series that prioritizes romance over friendship anyway. Older girls may love their romance, but younger girls don't, and the latter is still the core target for the main toys they want to sell.

Reminder that Takeuchi's original vision was Sailor V but some Toei exec thought an all-girl team would sell better. Mia Ikumi originally wanted to make a horror manga with a single protagonist but some Nakayoshi exec wanted a Sailor Moon-esque team. Pink Hanamori wanted to write a love story between a mermaid and a young pirate but Nakayoshi, again, wanted a team of mermaids
