I think the point isn't to beat him thru boxing but just brute forcing Ricard out of his stance, it's not just this little punch, Sendo made Martinez go up into the air by a couple centimeters on the first round. If he can punch Martinez hard enough he can make him lose balance, which should give him an opening. Forget about him blocking the punches, that's irrelevant if you can still capitalize so long as the punch lands anywhere.
