That show received a huge mean score, partially due to some YT retard encouraging people to boost the score, but not only. People, many of them, genuinely voted high for it either because they liked it or they wanted to troll. MAL decided to put everyone into one bag and made the mean score lower somehow (algorithm, anti bot vote brigading system, whatever). Funnily enough, genuine and malicious vote brigading, reported for years, was pretty much ignored until Interspecies Reviewers drama. An ecchi comedy that became popular and received high mean score was "enough" moment, apparently. The last straw to fix an easy problem by punishing a show that wasn't even the biggest part of it.

Gamers are victimized because corporation enjoy metacritic purging reviews that allow gamers to identify bad faith developers who push thier agenda. Metacritic also allows inflated scores for bad faith developers because it only allows journos, who will give "good scores" to agenda driven games.

Brigading is a good form of protest, so metacritic is victimizing gamers for voicing their opinions and are censoring legitimate opinions and behavior like this is why reviews by rotten tomato and metacritic are discredited. You both got it the wrong way MALtards, older anime tend to get more intelligent, fairer and critical scores then for any anime made in the past 10 years ago, so older anime on that site will tend to have lower ratings. As the only people who bother to go back and review an old anime are different from the type of people who rate modern anime whose ratings will be inflated/deflated completely based on hype culture or social media. An old anime that has a rating of 5 might still have something interesting about it. A modern anime rating of 7 might still suck. I mean, this site will allow you to rate and review an anime before it is even finished. Arete Hime getting 6.89 is pretty reasonable.

And MAL is still better then some other real shitty sites (letterboxd and its video game equivalent) where it is impossible to gauge if something is good or not because of social pollution by leftoids.

You can't holistically rate a piece of art using a scale that goes from 1 to 10. The idea that you can rate people, places or things using a single number is just another modern delusion.
If you had told someone a thousand years ago that people in the future would assign numbers to art and engage with them purely on that basis, they would not believe you.

It's really hard to see as a proper balanced review site when it's so lopsided. You'll get thousands of people throwing out 9s for whatever hype shit is airing or trendy but some obscure older series or ova might get a 5 from a dozen reviewers, retards with grudges or modern dullards who just can't handle anything old.

The score was somewhere in the 7 range before that idiot youtuber made his followers sign up and give the anime tens of thousands of 10/10 ratings, getting the score to like 9.5 within hours. After they got rid of that bot spam it went back to the 7 range, and if you just take a look at a few archived scores over the last few years you'd know the score is moving, not frozen.
