Evangelion
>one frame
>47 seconds
nearly 4% of the runtime including OP/ED devoted to one static frame

In the first four episodes every Timm Shinji and Misato are about to share a moment or make a connection they either get distracted, he rejects her or she snaps at him. Their chance to make a connection always gets broken. Then for 47 seconds the connection gets made.

The is one of the most kino Evangelion sequences tho

I wish i had the webm of the sequence, but the build up of the end of episode slowly revealing that Shinji choose to stay and face his own problem, and the realization that Misato still supports him even after they fight earlier in the episode. All of this without a single line of dialog and with no soundtrack playing in the background. Call it gimmicky to save budget, but even as animation every second of this scene feels organic.

God Evangelion episodes 1-6 is something else.

Inevitable moments of stillness/minimal movement is a limitation of literally every TV anime, the fact that Eva turns it into an art form is part of what makes it the best anime. It's not either/or.

It's okay because it was hand drawn and not like modern garbage that's a 3d render put together by chinks where the more you look at it, the worse it appears.

Eva is too coherent to for David Lynch.
>>283202228
Tarkovsky actually has things happen and characters moving within long takes, not just holding
on essentially a still frame.
>>283203533
The elevator scene is better. I never understood the complaining about it. It never felt too long on any of my watches through the series. Now, Shinji holding Kaoru before killing him is a bit much though.

>static shots that drag on for way too long are le DEEP
Anno is a fucking hack.
Anonymous No.283208261 [Report]
People talk about "budget" not realizing that so much of anime's iconography was formed out of a necessity to keep things relatively inexpensive while still producing visually appealing results. Just look at fucking Dezaki.

>>283204582

It was time constraint.
the 'footage' they had made wasn't filling the broadcast length, so they needed to keep the shot long.
It works here, cause it was the payoff to the stuff that happened from episode 1 to 4.

>I never understood the complaining about it.
Cause people probably saw the broadcast version where it's unnaturally stiff and feels cheap.
They fix this in DC, by having Asuka make a snorting sound.

They had plenty of budget, they were just rushed. But constraints make for better art, ultimately.

Usually whenever people whine about "budget" in anime, it's almost always just a time crunch. Animation issues aren't just a thing that you can fix with money anyway. Even if you were to just hire more animators, it just becomes more of a mess with even more cooks in the kitchen.

You guys are laughing but upon my very first watch of NGE I watched literally just 24eps out of 26.
You can only wonder what was going on inside of my head during next 10 hours of getting myself a rest after nonstop "kino"-session before I discovered that the show actually had 2 more eps left
Same goes for Darling in the FranXX.

The ultimate experience.

It's not a bad shot, it just was dragged out too long. The other well-known long shots are much better, and are timed appropriately.
