>Goblins are known for their ferocity, cunning, and rapid reproduction, but their reputation as the lowliest of monsters causes their threat to be overlooked. Raiding rural civilizations to kidnap females of other species for breeding, these vile creatures are free to continue their onslaught as adventurers turn a blind eye in favor of more rewarding assignments with larger bounties.

The story wants to prop Goblin Slayer up as the only person taking the green blight seriously. Goblin Slayer would be a better story if he was some government contractor tasked with taking out Goblins on really restrictive budgets. The Priestess could have been the newest hire to his division because the last one retired and/or got gobbed.

I think that anon's point is that humans will organize and protect themselves from threats including natural calamities. Goblins spawning in doesn't change the fact that they are a threat and humans historically hunt threats like that down. Yes, but this is a world of DnD, meaning dragons. Dragon >>> goblins on the MY TOWN IS ON FIRE threat scale. That's before we get into mind flayers, beholders, and other magical weird shit that just would end humanity if done right. Goblins power scale based on volume. A gaggle is a non-threat, an army is a real problem.

And real world still has shit like fire ants and murder hornets, despite both being little shits we humans hate. Also see the Emu War. The Emu's won.

>The societies that pour it all into degobbing the land fall to greater monsters
Did we read the same story? For the first volume of the LN the only problem are goblins because the demon army is in a whole other region so "greater monsters" don't matter. The big climax was taking down the Goblin Lord at the farmstead. At the point GS meets the Orc they are in the elvish region and the other major monsters were in the holy city. I think the Paladin was in a mountainous region far to the north.

It's also not hard to degob an area since goblins physically suck unless they evolve into a more powerful variant which takes time and resources. The pattern would be humans noticing goblins stealing livestock and killing the 3-5 normal gobs that are the cause before they get old enough to acquire magic or sufficient intelligence. Which any farmer could do but adventurers are a neverending resource and Goblins should and would be an easy early quest if the story didn't pretend the guild didn't pay attention to Goblin tactics.
Anonymous No.283205342 [Report] >>283205464

But they are? Literal quests are given to hunt them ALL. It's just adventurers in this world value fame and money, and goblin killing does NOT provide that - killing a dragon does. So it gets left to noobs in the adventuring world. Which is how they get gobbed. Goblin Slayer is just a weirdo who always takes "low level" quests per his fellows. But the reality is he does ALL goblin quests, wiping out hordes, nests, emperors, or whatever is associated with the goblins. Meanwhile, some normie adventurer takes a goblin quest like 1x or 2x a year at their level when the guild KNOWS it's a paladin, a hob, or involves other monsters.

>Adventurer population control.
Which is a dumb politic because not all adventurers are your average cheat OP Isekai protagonist, or need to be.
An average adventurer starts mediocre and gets better.
So it's a problem if 75% of your rookie adventurers (random number I got out of my ass) get killed by mobs considered trash. So at least the guilds should reconsider stop treating goblins as weak mobs when they can organize and attack in groups using tools unlike other mobs that are just savage beasts.
>Frees up land for the well connected.

>It's just adventurers in this world value fame and money, and goblin killing does NOT provide that
Which doesn't make sense on it's face. The Guild exists to protect any given region from threats and I think their income is dependent on the locals. So every town that gets gobbed means less money to them so volume 1 guild would be treating Goblins much more seriously than you pretend they would. This doesn't mean they would be shelling out hundreds of gold coins, but goblin extermination would be a greater priority. Goblin slayer wouldn't be the only person with a personal bone to pick with the green menace either.

>But the reality is he does ALL goblin quests,
That is not true. We are shown and told that others take on the quests, it's just that GS has the highest success rate.

Not from what I read. I think the only larger threats that weren't goblins were bandits and dire wolves. There are multiple frontier regions. Do you mean the one closer to demon country? Because I only read a couple of the LN volumes and nothing of that sort happened in the starting region.

Also, even if larger monsters exist they obviously exist in smaller numbers relative to goblins who attack far more frequently. At one point in the first volume there were 2-3 active goblin dens that had already party wiped experienced groups. GS himself had to respond to one after the previous group that attempted it were wiped out. They clearly are framed as a bigger issue than the response they receive.

Not really. The anon who pointed out responses to wildfires was spot on. Goblins should and would be handled a lot differently if the writing was up to par. If Goblin Slayer as a story framed the inappropriate response to goblins as an issue of logistics, a failure of government, or anything more believable. That would be points in it's favor. Instead the story just doesn't make it make sense at all. Dozens of adventurers die to goblins every week going by the story, yet nobody seems to care. The guild doesn't even act like a guild and train people, just throwing more adventurers into the meat grinder. Even shit setting like the Starship Trooper films have people going through basic before sending them to die to the bigs. Larger monsters aren't an actual excuse for diverting attention and resources in the first volume which would make this understandable.

I keep saying it but there's no problem in just admitting that GS as a story isn't the best in terms of worldbuilding. Even for a story emulating tabletop RPGs, shoddy writing is shoddy writing.

>so seeing one that doesn't does not set me off.
I don't want some picturesque setting where humanity is fully competent and capable. I brought up Starship Troopers for a reason, it's a hellish setting but humanity at least does the bare minimum in the live action films. I just don't think the story earns Goblin Slayer's status as the only guy taking goblins serious in the early volumes because they are so clearly a major issue it's laughable they get underestimated at all. It the broadest strokes, how internally consistent the world is with itself. This doesn't mean that a single chapter from later in the series where two characters talk about a problem erases that the problem exists. And as I've pointed out; the frontier region from volume 1 of the LN, the way the guild operates in said region, the relative threats present, and the obvious comparison to real world issues tackled by humanity. All show that Goblin Slayer operates on some contrivances to simultaneously let goblins kill droves of people on a monthly basis, but still have a low reputation despite that. Enabling one guy to be actually tuned into taking them out when it would be a much greater problem for everyone to handle. If you want to convince me the guild would be paying less for goblin extermination, show me how they can accept losing whole parties all the time. Posters like >>283202992 show the usual arguments in favor of the story. I think we are supposed to believe the world of GS is so big that all people killed by the goblins is not even close to cause some consequence in the big picture. Like, 10 villages destroyed per year in a kingdom with 200.000 villages.

The entire world is filled with evil creatures and they treat it like everything is fun and games with exception of GB and the pristess loli.
Is like GB is the only sane person in a world full of psychopaths where trying to help other people and do the work is retarted and you should be hunting other monsters not because you should in order to save the world but because is fun and that is the only thing that matters and that's it. I thought the Elf would understand after seeing all the elves raped but nah.

>It the broadest strokes, how internally consistent the world is with itself.
The Four Cornered World is a place where the gods fight off boredom by using people, places, and things as game pieces.
Every thing good or bad; sane or crazy; sensible or not that we encounter follows from that. To me, that's very internally consistent.

Only to Goblin slayer and the guild, most people see them as small dumb creatures they kill once or twice every summer.

Only happens when you live next to a goblin nest that got big enough to start do that. Most goblins are killed by farmers and young commoners before they become adventurers.
>these vile creatures are free to continue their onslaught as adventurers turn a blind eye in favor of more rewarding assignments with larger bounties.

it makes perfect sense because replace goblins with direwolves or some fantasy creatures
>they have a nest close to a settlement

in that sense goblins are actually better because you can rescue the rape victims lol
realistically of course humans would just eradicate the problematic species like they did with wolves in europe

What they endanger are rural small villages and towns. Goblin Slayer literally refuses the call to arms to move on the demon king's army because without him the goblins would wipe out the nearby villages.

Did they not have a standing army or government in that universe? Adventures are basically just mercs and bounty hunters, it's not their obligation to do pest control job. I don't know about it as I just jack off the rape parts and ignore the stupid story.

If I remember 10 years ago the king's father and his council sold out the country to the demon lord to immortality. The Prince's party killed them while the other Daikatana party with SM dealt with the demon lord. At the time the adventurer guild system had no power, there was some death plague ravaging the country - don't recall the exact details.
Current king is ruling with his adventuring party, has to ride out to collect taxes himself instead of relying on tax collectors. I recall a line about dark elves constantly practically appearing out of nowhere to cause trouble in the capital in one of the chapter introductions. The king also wishes problems could be solved like his adventuring days by just going and killing something. Haven't read past vol 8 but I've heard that the Viking vol involves trying to make an alliance or something. So I get the picture that the details that the kingdom has been in a precarious situation since at least the demon lord 10 years ago killing off a ton of their people it's just not always hammered in all the time.

>>283205740
5th vol had the gods watching and felt like the Gob Paladin was made for a 1 v 1 against GS, mob goblins diving to take arrows from the elf, counterspell for mages, Lizard Priest could probably take him on as well but eh. 6th vol opens with a GS expy party made by truth just to kill them. The evil wizard tower in vol 4 was said to just come out of no where, one day the roads were fine for trade the next gargoyles (Or harpies forgot which) are coming to carry up people and drop them. To me I'd explain the setting as a multiplayer Sims not!D&D edition with the gods as the players.

Haven't read past Vol 8 so I'm probably missing more example but eh.
