I did not care for Violet Evergarden. She insists upon herself.
>"Look at me, I was a child soldier who doesn’t understand feelings but now I’m crying because someone said 'I love you' - isn’t that BEAUTIFUL???"
>"I’m trying to learn human emotions by writing letters, DO YOU SEE THE SYMBOLISM??? PLEASE FIND ME HEARTWARMING."
>"Every episode I meet someone sad, help them process grief, and shed a tear - I’M CHANGING, ARE YOU CRYING YET???"
Her being a broken ex-soldier finding purpose in a peaceful world through letter-writing is already a strong premise. But the series keeps overplaying the “emotionally repressed doll discovers love” theme so much it feels like someone pinned a ribbon on her saying “PLEASE FIND THIS MOVING” instead of just trusting the story to carry the emotion naturally.
