I'm a mid 30s man who didn't grow up with anime outside of Pokémon, so just finished my first watch through of Evangelion. I must have mentally projected my wife onto Asuka because she also lost her mother quite young, and she's ginger and mean to me sometimes. Long story short I couldn't sleep last night because I was crying so much.
It makes me incredibly sad that she didn't get the ending she deserved, and I feel like I've failed to protect her.
What do, do I go straight onto the rebuild movies?

What ending does Asuka deserve? She never did anything to improve nor did she ever try to achieve any positive outcome for herself. All Asuka ever did was run away fom facing her real issues by making harmful decisions that would/could only ensure her own destruction.

Asuka didn't want to be saved or protected. She rejected everyone who tried to help her. Also she's a jobber as pilot. Rei has a lower sync ratio because 00 is bugged with the soul of a schizo kid (Rei I is sociopathic)
