Lemon gets a lot of shine in Makeine though. Each of the three loser girls get their own arcs to shine, even if they're loser girls. That's not something an author who hates their own character would do. They'd just torture them with bullshit. The bullshit thing that ever happens with Lemon, at least in the anime (I haven't read ahead in the light novel), was her butchering a perfectly good chance to score a date with that jock who challenged her a 100m race. Dude trained hard for challenge, came out to her with maximum rizz and a charming smile while flexing his physique with his track outfit, only for Lemon to somehow become denser than dark matter and say "uhh how about a 1500?" I'm fully convinced it is the anime that actually elevated Hina among fans to the level that she has gotten to. She's really not THAT special in the manga, but in the anime, she's so beautifully portrayed and the voice actress pours her heart out into this character so much that she stands out as far more likeable than Chinatsu.

It is still true that the author has a hate boner for her, given just how much she keeps losing and getting bashed.

Well he definitely loves Mini and likes Sumi to certain degree given that he gave her an entire manga, Kazuya depends on if he chooses if he is his self insert or not and Mami is and odd one because she is shown in a negative light but she gets this pity points from him and she's definitely going to be redeem at some point, I guess that the only other character he dislikes is Kibe? Kazuya is always kind of a duck to him and we don't know a lot of his personal life and opinions compared to Kuri but at the same time Reji shows him a positive light in more moments that you would expect, the only charter I'm seriously convinced that he hates (or at the very least dislikes) is Ruka and he must loath that she is so popular
