When did you realize that Inuyasha is actually a kino deconstruction and subversion on the “reincarnated lovers” trope? So often when this type of trope is used in anime it treats both the reincarnation and their previous incarnation as completely interchangeable and just picking up right where the previous life left off, when realistically, being raised in a whole new environment, with a new family and new life experiences WOULD drastically change a person, and you can’t expect them to be the exact same person as their previous life.

A lot of times these romances also come off feeling really artificial and forced because you’re always left wondering in the back of your mind “does character A really like character B for themselves or just because they happen to be the reincarnation of their previous lover?”
