Usually digimons only become a blank slate when they revert back to being a digiegg when they are essentially killed.
Though each anime is somewhat free to mess with the mechanics and lore of the series to do their own thing when it fits their narrative.

I continue to be cautiously hyped, and it's getting increasingly less cautious. This was pretty good, even for Digimon. This kind of teamwork in a fight is fairly rare, as is a focus almost entirely on the interpersonal dynamics that's largely divorced from a specific episodic conflict (That is, unlike Ghost Game which was low on MC conflicts but super high on episodic stories to interact with, this episode was super low on the cast interacting with some episodic situation and very high on the cast hashing out their relationship, which could've happened in any situation).

And again, the kind of "teamwork to take down an enemy" is pretty unique, even after all these years. It's a good way to kind of space out evolution reveals.

I thought it would be weird if they let the digimon live only to throw them to the soulless government suits, but it's obvious they don't do that at the very least. It's nice to see that the show did think it through. That's yet another mystery that's come up though.

I'm honestly surprised that the quality has remained quite high. In terms of writing I mean, I'm really enjoying this cast of characters and appreciating the time they are taking to let them breathe. In terms of animation it's good, it's fine, but there were some abrupt cuts here and there like the slide part that felt very strange but for a weekly long anime like this that's to be expected at times.

Regardless, I want to learn more about Reina's past. I suspect she may know someone from the antagonist faction given she's been on numerous teams before Glowing Dawn. It's also interesting how they're already setting her up as the leader while 'Kyo isn't around' when the guy has so many death flags. Makes me wonder if shit will hit the fan sooner than we think.

It's another twist on the usual Digimon cast dynamics, if they hold consistent to it anyway. Usually your goggle-head/faux goggle-head will be the default leader. But Tomoro not only has the wrong personality for it, but his motivations are so personal it'd be strange if his character was the one to try and hold everyone together to lead them. He's more likely to be one of the ones running off on his own once Kyo is gone.

"Third time is the charm" might be the case here, Colon was ok at times but it had way too much baggage by using the Adventure aesthetic rather than something new, I had fun with Ghost Game but that type of show should be an one-off rather than the default. Beatbreak is both a brand new show but serialized in a way that makes you look forward to what's going to happen, which is definitively what I felt watching Digimon as a kid.
It might be pretentious to say so early, but if something like this aired in the 2000s it would have kids by the balls.

Gekkomon is starting to feel like one of the strongest rookies we've seen, having enough power output to defeat two champions so far even if he needed the assist from chiropmon this time to paralyze machmon given the environmental advantage.
