Do you like Doga Kobo?
Their early work was a little too moe slice-of-life for my taste, but when Himouto! Umaru-chan came out in 2015, I think they really came into their own — commercially and artistically.
The animation has a clear, crisp style, and a new sheen of confidence that really gives the scenes a big boost.
She’s been compared to Konata from Lucky Star, but I think Umaru-chan has a far more playful, self-aware sense of humor. The show so cute most people probably don’t even listen to the themes. But they should, because it’s not just about a bratty little sister who games all day it’s a satirical commentary on the contradictions of modern otaku culture. The character dynamics are so perfectly balanced, it’s almost impossible not to sympathize with Umaru, even as she’s being insufferable.
Doga Kobo's subsequent work seems to be more mature, serious even and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. But I think they work better within the confines of moe anime
This is Umaru and the Starry Sky from the second season (Umaru Chan R), a great, great episode, a personal favorite.

Fuck no. Their peak was between Yuru Yuri and Mikakunin. Gabdro wasn't very funny. Its only saving grace was Vigne.
