What's the JLPT level of /a/? How many of you have passed N1? I am giving N2 exam next year.

Japanese Language Proficiency Test. It helps you in getting a job in Nippon. N5 is the elementary level, N1 is a language degree level.

I did like four different Anki decks every day, had to keep starting new ones because I found the ones I was already doing weren't very complete
And then when I got to the test itself I ran into a bunch more that weren't in my decks
Still managed to pass at like the 90th percentile though

Kind of true but I just did it to see where I was at
It's also a nice card to be able to play when arguing about translations because the vast majority of shitter TLs out there are even worse, even "pros"

How many months do you need to prepare for N2?
Anonymous No.283283846 [Report] >>283284057
>>283283813
Dunno, I never did N2
Assuming you're not starting from scratch right now then a year of study and immersion will probably be enough
If you've already booked the exam then use that as a goal to keep yourself motivated, don't get lazy and you'll be fine

JLPT is a joke, but it's a requirement for working and in some cases also studying in Japan.
The actual big dick certification is Kanken, but you can only get level 2 outside of Japan.

At least N4, possibly N3.
Haven't actually taken it though, just evaluating based on practice exam results and what I'm studying now and such.

Are there seriously still people aspiring to get certified to teach English in Japan for minimum wage in this day and age? You only need to be N5 to charm a JK gyaru and take her home to a country that doesn't suck

I'm around N3 but, I shit you not, I stopped studying Japanese completely once I moved to Tokyo for a year and realized I didn't need to it get by.
Which was retarded of me. You don't get gains passively even if you're in the country.

>You don't get gains passively even if you're in the country.
gains are made by engaging with language. you can listen actively (think of words, grammar, ways of expressing, language bias (like where does "blue" begin and end for nips)).
you can also talk to friends and pick up their patterns. ask them to correct you.
after some point you need to be producing in some way, even talking to yourself, the more complex the sentences the better.

uh started watching at 12? and learning by who knows when. by now i feel my brain's had the learning switch off for a few years but i'm confident i could still learn if i put in a bit of effort to get in an attentive mood every time.

you put anime on. there are eng subs in the file, but you don't look. later you just turn them off when you don't need them.
you think in japanese. if you know no words, this means deliberately getting in deep water and having your brain wade through the alien grammar.
when a sentence you have no clue about turns up (might be most in the beginning), you glance at subs to load the meaning into working memory. then with little effort you try to make sense of sentence structure, which word has what use.
if you're not clinically retarded, you will passively start understanding basic nip grammar in a few airing seasons. then, when a word you don't know appears, put it into a dictionary.
relying on subs is the final crutch. minimize it, think in japanese and it will just sink in. your brain is amazing.

Do not fall for the meme people who say they just naturally learned by watching anime
Especially if you want to read kanji.
