Same thing happened with the Lizardman arc in Overlord. Telling everything from their perspective is fine if it's a book, but in anime format everyone wants to know where the main characters are.

It's really stupid how the author tries to sell this idea that it's a detective story, because he seems wholly uninterested in the actual plot and structure of mysteries. There's no investigation, development of characters, process of logical deduction, hell most of the time Kotoko just pulls explanations from thin air. It seems like the only part of mysteries the autgor actually likes is the reveal at the end, so the entire story is just a problem and then a giant steaming exposition dump to resolve it.

I think a lot of that is a problem with the writing-style of these sorts of novels. When was the last time an adaptation of a LN "mystery" actually had a compelling, well-written case and resolution?

I'd blame the format and demographic but Encyclopedia Brown was solving short-form mysteries for a child audience decades ago. Hell Conan still does it on a weekly basis.

It's an inverted detective story. Most stories have her immediately finding out the truth about a situation through just asking the ghosts/youkai, while the real conflict is her having to convince someone that the supernatural wasn't involved by making up believable bullshit.

It varies, but in general it's a lot less pretty in real life. Japan has a serious cultural taboo against cripples so it's no surprise they'd depict it like this.
