What's the smallest episode file size /a/ can watch?

0-100mb - full of artifacts
100-200mb - stuttering mess
200-300mb - Good enough for non-action anime
300-400mb - The standard for me
400-500mb - Good for action anime
500-600mb and up - I don't know why you would
Anonymous No.283416221 [Report]
no point bothering with anything below 2GB per episode

"Can" watch?
I watched some episodes of the original FMA with less than 15mb.

I remember downloading almost unwatchable Sailor Moon episodes in 2006 that were 20 MB or so. Good times. I think that in the early 2010s the standard filesize was around 200. I don't remember if there was any clear difference in quality. Nowaday 400 MB is small and 700 MB-1.2 GB is average.

it also changed over time as compression got better.

And that's before the questions of Resolution and encoding.

I think it's worse, 4chan is now filled with not only repetitive threads but with the same answers.
it's beyond pajeets or ai bots, it's a script (or schizos) doing copy+paste.

Past a certain size, probably for 1080p, 2K and 4K.

Me? I just watch online. It's not the 2000s where streaming videos were all 144p or whatever anymore. All you need is uBlock.

It really depends on the show, if there's a lot of solid colors and reused shots you can compresses those down pretty small, most of my encodes of X range from 80-90mb. Shows that have a lot of movement and gradients can't compress nearly as small.
Anonymous No.283420983 [Report]
I always download the biggest one because that's the highest quality.

I remember when filesizes shrunk down to ~250MB when 10-bit encodes became the norm only to get bloated again when everything was replaced by CR rips.

I love short anime. They can be fun to watch week to week. Blows my mind how some episode 1s can be super long now a days. like 45 minutes up to an hour plus sometimes.

Can someone explain to me why >1GB 1080p rips are standard now when a few years ago they were like 400/500 mb? And also before people would say all the time that 720p rips were identical to 1080p rips and that 1080p was just placebo and bloat but now everyone downloads 1080p by default now. Why?
Anonymous No.283423594 [Report]
>>283423305
They had 720p monitors back then, of course it was placebo for them

I just watch the best quality I can get. I have a gigabit connection and 10tb media server so large file sizes are a non-issue

Caring about filesize is entirely a modern thing.
Most tv stuff looks perfectly fine under 300mb i dont see any reason for it to be any larger.
I just watch whatever i can get ahold of regardless of size or quality.
