Can't speak for anyone else, but it fell off for me on episode 2 of season 1.
I loved the first episode because of the absurd humor of it.
Then we got to episode 2. And that humor was gone and replaced by lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of cringe moping. Whatever humor they tried afterwards for the rest of the first season tried to balance some humor with the mopey tone and it just didn't work.
Also, CGI dance numbers. Absolutely embarrassing.
In terms of zombie anime that tried to balance humor and gravitas, I think Sankarea did a much better job. It's also another story of a girl revived from the dead and how she tries to, well, "live" the rest of her life now that she's been given a second chance at it. It had both humor and very serious moments, but none of it felt forced and awkward the way it did in ZLS.
Oh. And let's not forget: literal tranny garbage. Not even otokonoko or femboy stuff, which is fine. No, it's literal trannyshit. ZLS came out in 2018. That was arguably around the era of peak wokeness. It was between 2017 and 2022 when this madness was at its apex. Five years of lunacy.
