I believe it's just purposefully ignoring the dark side of it because they don't want to portray it that way; either to keep anime and manga lightheated or because they're in denial. But that begs the question why in so many manga with darker themes, or even fairly light exploration of stuff like depression, do they still choose not to portray the worst effects of alcohol addiction?. There's no way they're all just depressive or happy or sleepy drunks and that's the end of it.

Yeah, for example, Hiroi would be physically ruined and feel like death to the point of being virtually non-functional when not too tanked up to notice. In fairness it does show some of her down moments but it's completely lighthearted and diluted compared to the reality of it.
