Yeah the transformation screams "overdesigned". That dragon head for a hand already detracts from the overall look with its sheer size, but then having it hold a sword as its means of attack should have been vetoed by the editor the moment he saw it. It not even a single being that he wears as some sort of fusion armor. There's this lower jaw he wears as a neck guard (waiting to poke his eyes out if he bends his head down the wrong way). I guess at least his hair doesn't look shit when he's in transformation mode.
As for the chapter, it was ok-ish though felt very by the numbers. A typical MOTW type story to get the hero started on his journey, before some kind of main plot kicks in. Problem is, I don't feel this series will have enough opportunity to actually reach the point of "main plot starts". At least it had the good sense to not spend multiple chapters on an early cannon fodder fight (looking at you, Red Hood). Another thing I'm not sure about is whether I'm supposed to be suspicious about the egg's good intentions or whether the author simply fumbled its characterization.
