He should have made Boruto Naruto’s grandson. That would have left so much room for exploring what happened in the middle, flashbacks, etc. we wouldn’t even know what happened to Naruto’s son. He’s mentioned but never seen. A backstory would be required and that could have started a whole new manga in the future

Bc ame orphans are def much older than Obito, since Obito was Minato's student, who would likely be just a tiny bit older than ame (since, also by fucky timeline, jiraiya knows rasengan by the time he meets them, which minato developed over years, so had to be about 16 minimum (given kakashi made chidori by like age 12 it's not impossible) by the time ame were about 12 and meeting jiraiya)
