I think it's just to show Makima's influence on Denji's life in a lasting way and to not rewrite Power's legacy or sacrifice with Power 2. Denji opening the door for Power to get hurt was the biggest reason for him wanting to make his own decisions in life. I also think trying to to build new relationships to fill the emptiness of past ones is what Part 2 is going for with Deni being reminded of Aki and Power with Yoshida and Asa respectively, so he can't just reconnect with his old friends.

What changed in Fujimoto's philosophy during the years between part 1 and 2 to make the primal devils change so much?
Falling and Aging are these conversational, witty and soft-spoken chaps who at best go killing randos, and one of them is a straight up minion to the snorefest that is Death. Darkness in part 1 was an absolute fucking monstrosity that didn't even bother with human language and casually vaporized half the named cast while passing through.

Yes. Hell, in hindsight, I think Makima may have hired the Typhoon Devil and the slasher guy to go bug them at their school date (just to accelerate Reze making a move to make her fight/kill Denji).

Fami and FSM were eaten by Death Devil. Barem was eaten by CSM/Denji. And Asa asked Denji to eat her in the last chapter. What do you think being eaten represents? For Fami and FSM, it's interesting that one of them was screaming "salvation" over and over after being eaten, being eaten by Denji would be salvation for Asa because it will free her from Yoru's control. On the other hand, we saw Barem being eaten alive by Pochita. He didn't comeback and he is stuck inside Pochita. Long ago, Death Devil trapped Asa and Denji using Eternity Devil's ability, seemingly can be seen as his stomach as anything trapped in there would die and get consumed by Eternity Devil, and she also tried to get both of them eaten by Justice Devil. In an attempt to make a CSM weapon allegedly, to stop the apocalypse from happening. I think each instance has a different reason behind it, so there's no firm representation of what being eaten is supposed to mean. For Asa, to be denied her wish to be eaten means CSM refused to do it, because Denji didn't want Asa to die. But that means he will have to keep fighting Yoru. Unrelated note, both Asa and Yoru unlocked hidden memories during this arc, Yoru remembered nukes thanks to Americans bringing that weapon back and Asa remembered her Dad's murder at the hand of her Mother. I mentioned this because many times, Yoru ends up fulfilling Asa's desires, so if Asa wants to be eaten or die, Yoru can do that for Asa. Inside Pochita's body, Yoru's comrades are still stuck, she might enter his stomach to retrieve them, or beat him to make CSM vomit them out, that's also an option. I'd like to see Asa and Yoru inside Pochita's stomach, where Asa can finally be free from Yoru.

I went to see the 3D version like I mentioned in an earlier thread…pretty neat. I feel like it sort of fits the goofy vibe pretty well and in plenty of places it was nearly seamless, although there were a few ugly parts. The overall art style was similar, nice and energetic with some low quality moments. Pacing was good up to Reze’s song and then it felt like the movie had a hard time figuring out how to handle emotional moments. Aki and Angel’s catharsis scene gets almost no emphasis and fades out in such a bizarre way. Reze voice acting was pretty bland for the song too. Still, the whole thing was better than the tv series.


The worst part of the 3D was the subtitles which sort of just float in the most foregrounded layer that doesn’t match the focal depth most of the time.
