Alright I've watched the movie (only the shitty camrip but it'll do for now). I've read the manga, but it's been ages so I've only remembered the basic outline of the story, and the movie helped me remember a lot. My impressions:
- Reze is a really shallow character. The setup for le tweest where this cute affectionate girl is actually powerful and evil is pretty braindead and I imagine even the first-timers weren't fooled by it. We only really get inside Reze's head at the very end of the movie where we learn she does feel a connection to Denji, but it never develops into anything (not even in the manga), so it's too late to matter.
- In addition to that, Reze is pretty bullshit overpowered. Not only she can make explosions anywhere she wants, she also has lightning fast reflexes so nobody can land a hit on her - she's ALWAYS faster, so the battle is pretty much doomed to go on until the author decides she's not fast anymore. It's honestly amazing that Aki manages to land a couple hits, even with Future Devil's help.
- Aki saves Angel because he can't bear to see anyone else die anymore, not even a devil. This is the beginning of his downfall - Aki grows weaker and weaker mentally until eventually Makima breaks him completely and he is killed. It's really sad to see when you know what's going to happen in the manga.
- Country mouse vs. city mouse is some 2deep4u bullshit that keeps flying over my head no matter how much I think about it. Yeah, the city turns out to be a pretty dangerous place when Reze bombs the shit out of it... but so is the country because it has dogs to kill the mice. So the point of this dichotomy eludes me.
- The battle was really cool though. Glad they decided to make a movie because a TV series could've never done it justice.

but underneath all the senseless killing is the girl that went to meet Denji at the cafe.
