ITT: The most influential anime in your life.

The only time anime ever inspired me was when I was 13 and watched Naruto. Rock Lee and Guy made me start going to the gym and become more confident in myself.

I always thought mahjong was just a shitty tile matching game before I learned about riichi mahjong. It still is a shitty tile matching game, but man is it fun when you know all the rules and how to play. It's become a normal part of my friends and I's repertoire of games. Really fun, and I never would've thought to get into it if I didn't watch Saki.

Rurouni Kenshin on toonami. I grew up to love Japan, it's culture and its history because of it. I did watch Dragon Ball, Saint Seiya and other anime before it but none of those had Japanese cultural or historical themes, Rurouni Kenshin was the first "mature" anime i watched
My life would certainly be very different if i hadn't watched it. To this day i get emotional listeting to those openings and endings

It's weird how many people I've met who only started playing Riichi Mahjong because of Saki. Like, of all the echi/moe shows out there, why are people watching the mahjong one? And how is Saki so good at getting people to play mahjong anyways? I've seriously met at least 20 people who started mahjong because of of Saki and then they found my mahjong group online because they wanted to play it. It's odd, but it's cool

since people are shitposting, I'll post something REAL, a mango that is also an anime that wasn't fully adapted but it still counts
2 arcs were kino on paper, but more importantly, the series was perfect at showcasing what shounenshit truly was:
diarrhea with piss on top on a puke canvas
it made fun of shounenshitters and demonstrated how retarded they are, especially the narutards and wan pissers of the past
this is why it was influential

I showed to separate people Evangelion and then later showed them End of Evangelion. They both told me that they much preferred the original ending over the EoE ending, and regret even watching EoE because it ruins the original ending.

Honey and Clover of all things. I ended up watching it while having my first "what is life, really" in highschool and it helped illustrate how different fiction is from reality.

I actually don't understand how any NEET could watch this and draw any kind of lesson from it, the entire show consists of a magical girl trying to save this piece of shit, and then the final episodes are just blatant nip work ethic propaganda. In the real world there are no magical girls, there are basically no jobs that a long time NEET could realistically get without government assistance (which depending on your country first requires a couple years of constant humiliation rituals with various social workers and temporary postings) and even if you do rejoin the workforce you'll quickly realize that its a dead end of despair.

>I actually don't understand how any NEET could watch this and draw any kind of lesson from it
The lesson is realizing that there is no magical girl who'll save you, and every few episodes is a vision of a possible future for (You) the hikki. Join a cult and die, your enabler disappears and you start starving to death, you're suddenly 50 and 400 lbs and have rapidly deteriorating health and have done nothing with your life.

Well that is my future except I will probably die before 40 because of how stressfull my work life is.
I went into the workforce at 24 and was a lean 200pounds,5 years later I am over 400.Hell 35 will be a milestone of survival at this rate...
Also still incel, still poor, still living with mum, the job market is a scam.

Golden boy inspired me to:
--travel around to different countries (I know he stays in Japan, whatever)
--carry a special notebook
--take up bike touring
This anime specifically has determined the trajectory of my 20s and early 30s

Yukari from Azumanga inspired me to become an English teacher with some help from Onizuka.

Cromartie High School had a pretty profound effect on how I relate to others. I'm 36 and I still live as a good-natured teenage delinquent.

Was playing a coin pusher game at a beachside pier, and the guy on the machine next to me kept humming "Tobira no Muko He" to himself. It was very irritating, but we got chatting about FMA anyway, then the conversation drifted to Kaiji. Dude was an idiot, but I met my actual best friends through him.
