The part 1 characters fujimoto brought back were ones like katana man, Yoshida and quanxi which people dont idolize as much. I believe fujimoto did this because he wants to get the part one characters people dont care as much out of the way while relying on the part two characters so that he can save the ones that people want for either the end of part 2 to hype the next part up, or for part 3 (kishibe, kobeni, new power, obviously reze)

Asa is a good character but her entire character and conflict revolves around her relationship with yoru and her own past. I was once an asa/denji shipper and accepted reze was gone for good when they were dating in the infinity arc. Then nayuta cucked her and she pretty much stopped caring about denji after that

After falling, asa/denji were barely anything. Denji loved reze and wanted to run away with her. He still thinks about reze when he was drowning on the same pedestal as power/aki and nayuta and that says a lot. Meanwhile denji didnt enjoy his date with asa at his apartment and gladly let asa go for nayuta

Reze also cared about denji and challenged his ideals. She called out that he was being used and wanted to run away and protect him which ended up being the right path for denji from what happened with him later. Asa just looked at him as scum and thought he was a scumbag for trying to hustle when reze cared about denjis troubled position which pretty much nobody but maybe nayuta ever cared about btw

Also Yoru ended up cucking him and started dating denji and giving him a fun time, something asa failed. Denji never cares about asa in the second half and often ignores her. Its only now that denji likes asa after bonding but denji has bonded with many characters that he has no romantic relationship with. Its clear that denji and asa should be friends and fujimoto failed to make them a couple while denji still thinks of the date reze had to this very chapter

Reze has more chemistry with Denji because that's her role, a love interest for Denji no more no less. Asa on the other hand is clearly not supposed to be just another love interest. Her relationship with Denji is never depicted as sth really that important. Her issue with Yoru is always her main conflict, not Denji. Her saving Denji is no more special than her saving Yuko, that's just meant to show how selfless, how heroic she is despite having a savage devil constantly on her throat.
And she's not boring. It's her relationship with Denji that was boring because Denji is not a compelling love interest for her. Every 2-sec interactions of her with Yoshida always had 10x more chemistry and much more intriguing.

On the other Denji did mention that when women throw themselves at him it's because they want to use him and he lumped her together with Death and Fumiko.
Yoru confessed to Denji, but she said that Asa is the one who likes him while she only likes him because she shares a brain with Asa.

I have a theory why makima didnt come in to stop reze when she kidnapped denji and its because makima spied on reze and knew deep down that her being destructive would destroy her and makima wanted her to suffer and self destruct while makima does not give a fuck what happened to the civilians. Makima wanted her to suffer and believed she could be stopped without her anyways, but when denji still loved her and wanted to still run away with her, she stepped in because she knew that she couldve changed denji away from her at that moment

The emotional weight of this finale is completely void because we never see why Asa started to consider Yoru her friend, or when she tried to make Yoru good.

Watching the sheer amount of weapons Asa and Yoru made together made me feel so bitter and sad. Like, each of those is a nice fun adventure both had together. Not necessarily a whole part (though that idea isn't bad either), but just not having them all appear this fast one after the other without fleshing one of them out first. Part 2 could have mostly just Nayuta and War, with a future part (or the end of 2) being when Famine (or Death pretending to be her) first makes her appearance. It's hard to say where Yoru's character is heading, but it almost feels like she's winding up for tragedy.

Up until Aging, Yoru didn't really strike as a irredemable putrid evil character, she was scorned and ambitious to regain her power, mostly due to insecurity and fear of being forgotten, but she couldn't help but get attached, which fits the nature of her power requiring guilt and her attachment to her children. Even in aging itself it didn't feel like Yoru was malicious towards Asa, she was just having a power high and not really seeing how she could be hurting her.
But after Aging she became completely cruel and uncaring towards Asa, every action she takes just made her worse and worse.

I gives me the impression that Yoru will be stripped of that power and will feel regret for squandering her relationship with Asa and Denji for power.
