The worst part about posting on /a/ are the people who LARP as these deep anime fans and say shit like this
>>283541909 like most early digital anime just looked like ass with worse animation to boot. Like, I'm one of those people who actually paid to import some SUPER disappointing shit (early GI Final was not worth it), and I can safely say the best looking early digital anime were basically just
>Doremi
>Detective Conan (occasionally, mainly the movies)
>FLCL
>King Gainer
>Princess Tutu
Most other shit just looked like shit. Remember when Initial D made the jump to digital and you couldn't even tell which character was which? Mahoromatic S2 is an encapsulation of a lot of early digital issues, just very flat and bland visuals, but the worst was shit that looked like this
>>283541866, half the biggest shows all looked incredibly glossy because nobody knew what they were doing with those early digital tools. I remember being forced to sit through episodes of Naruto where every character had shiny white streaks all while the image was colour graded into the dullest parts of the greyish blue zone. Absolutely awful.
But yeah, there was some good stuff. Nobody is bringing any of it up I guess. Modern anime does generally have better visuals and composition because everyone working with the digital tools is far more experienced in that field. The only anime that actually had a successful cel -> digital transition with very few hiccups was Conan (and specifically the full shift, not the early specials), and that was being backed by fucking TMS.
