It's 48 half-length episodes.
First two ones are about three sisters whose older brother married the royalty of a small nation in the pacific, had a son and then disappeared after his wife died, making the three sisters now the kings of that island.
They don't want to become kings, though the island worships a deity named "Ranga", which is the robot which appears in all the arts of the anime.
After a while, Ranga decides to visit them in Japan, accidentally destroying everything in his path, and a large part of the anime is how Japan and the world you react to an indestructible weapon from another country getting into Japan, so a lot of it sorta looks like AKIRA or the Oshii Mamoru films.
Most of the first half after this is mostly slice-of-life stuff, then the second half becomes kaijuu battles and political conspiracy.
