Of course it's a clickbait, they've made no official announcement for the Demon Slayer one in years since 2019. And even if they made one for it, who will it appeal to? Certainly not the core fanbase. And the reason why Demon Slayer even blew up is because of the animation which is a huge part of its identity. The story and characters alone aren't interesting. Plus, all these visual effects from the anime would be a complete production nightmare to transition into live action. They're trying to profit off from Infinity Castle's success, but live action adaptations take a long time to make and by the time it drops, Infinity Castle has already ended and fans have left.

Same thing with My Hero Academia. It could have worked as a live action if it got production on the same scale as Marvel, but anime live action adaptations don't get that same luxury unless you're One Piece. Plus, I have a feeling it'll be a Bleach level flop.

Part of the reason why One Piece even worked as a live action is because Oda is a control freak and only allowed Netflix to make one IF he was involved in the production. He actually holds ownership of his IP. MHA and Demon Slayer's authors don't own their IP, they sold all of their rights away to Shueisha. One Piece is an exception, not the rule that live action can work.

Solo Leveling so far is the only one that got any official announcement (Sung Jin Woo's actor got revealed) and it might work, mostly because Korean cinema has been a household in the film industry for years now.

Anyway, this whole live action gimmick is tone deaf and meaningless because instead of seeing the success of Demon Slayer and thinking maybe people still prefer 2D animation over 3D, they waste so much money on live actions that'll flop.

You know, when i first heard anime becoming mainstream in the west, I thought there would be a flood of western corps jumping in 2d animation scene again, making imitation anime like the 2000s with avatar and teen titans. But all they've done is just take existing japanese properties and ruin them with cheap live-action adaptations.

The entire film industry declined since the pandemic. Fewer people are attending theaters unless they're fan-driven like Infinity Castle. Even if Korean cinema declined, their live action movies are still doing far better than Japanese live action. That doesn't disprove my point. You're agreeing that anime language rarely survives translation, you just disagree on how well One Piece managed to hide the seams. Anime exaggeration is baked into the DNA of shounen storytelling. Big faces, shouted feelings, lightning fast tone shifts. If you copy that literally in live action, half the audience will cringe. If you tone it down, the other half complains it's not anime anymore. That's why even One Piece (the most expensive, creator-approved adaptation ever made) still feels cartoonish to people who aren't invested in Oda's world.

Also, One Piece is an anomaly because Oda filtered which bits of absurdity stayed and which didn't, and the producers embraced the campiness instead of pretending to be gritty realism (one of the reasons why Attack on Titan LA flopped). Hell, Netflix gave it movie-level production design. It's more expensive than Game of Thrones, costing $18 million per episode.
