Which one? Ggg are good, most scales are okay. If you want the '80-90s b-club gks you'll need the full on protective gear because all of them are resin and will need to be sanded down.

If it's capsule stuff you're better off buying boxes because they'll be cheaper than the individual figures unless you get a junk a lot which in most of the cases the junk lots are just dirty and just need to be cleaned.

Most will be old and some will have sunspots. A lot of mine from the '80s obviously have old Japanese basement smell to them so what you can do is you can leave them in the box and air them out first before putting them into your shelf. Posters all of that the paper will be delicate so whites could be faded to yellow at this point in time.
You'll have to be a lot more specific but if it's manga or anything I collect a lot of stuff from the '80s and '90s right now I could probably lead you in the right direction or something to look for in quality if you give me a few specific items.

Generally I collect zeta merch and right now I'm into Venus wars and odeon but I've seen them across side it's not something I personally want to buy but I should be able to help you with search terms and or any misspellings of words that will lead to more results in Japanese search engines.

Honestly if you were to start anywhere. I would recommend for Gundam the u.c library edition bds. They have English+jp subs and are incredibly affordable. Otherwise choose your favorite series first and look into what exists in that series. obviously Gundam has been around for a very long time and you have goods that span from the 80s until now. I would really recommend kind of choosing one genre whether it's art books, physical media, or things like goods such as figures or house goods. You could easily go broke especially when you have all of the options available to you. So I would either choose your favorite era or series and start with that and evaluate what you use on a daily basis.
I for example buy a lot of char goods but it doesn't mean that I buy every single one. I don't need to own 5,000 items of the same design nor do I find any use in copious amounts of keychains or can badges. For example if you want to make an ita bag you may want to go and find some of those rare keychains or goods to show off your bag. If you want to collect things like Sayla, she has quite a lot of official garage kits. It's up to you whether you like them or not. I collect art books from my favorite artist- hiroyuki or yas. But a lot of art books that continually come out over the years tend to have a lot of repeats so if you can find scans online look through and see if for example the art book that came earlier is missing some of the works that came later that you like because it may be worth it for you to get the later art book and skip the earlier one.
You also have things like print quality like the art of zeta book has a really good print quality whereas the reprint edition has a lot of black smudging so it's worth it to do some research too on whether you want the original or the reprint because the original might be in worse condition for being 40 plus years old but the reprint edition may have its own issues such as cheap paper or cheap ink

You can also get into specialty goods like Macross has a ton of 'paint your own cel' and if you like macrosse and maybe worth owning one or two of those sets one to actually paint it how they would have used in the series and one to collect. There's a ton of different things that you can collect within just these two franchises.

It's kind of hard to really start somewhere but I would start with maybe a list of a few things that you want to own and then work your way back from there and of course ask any questions here. I will at least be able to answer them for you especially any search terms or older print items for Gundam and pricing

I really like the series a lot. 1 is my favorite by far, but 2 is quite good. It's where they shifted to a more anime style, and where Pyra and Mythra originated, and I guess they're popular in China because they make a ton of statues for them.
