Why didn't any other shonen authors copy Araki and consistently introduce new protagonists? It solves plentg of issues plaguing the genre such as power creep and useless side characters.
Anonymous No.283662411 [Report]
Their editors told them not to so they didn't.
Anonymous No.283662426 [Report]
Uma Musume and Orb kinda did that too.

Jojoshit got plenty of that

Sure, but the average jojo side character is far more useful.

Because it takes big balls to start over after you established a successful series

This: yugioh, at least the first season, drinks a lot from jojo

I was very surprised a series in 1987 ended with the protagonist dying. They would never let an author do this now, too much pressure to keep the same formula going if the series is successful.

You have boruto....

It's a very risky move. You don't want to rock a successful money-printing boat.
And those in danger of the axe have bigger problems than killing the protag and introducing a new one will solve.

Because then the mangaka would get accused of copying araki

It takes a lot of luck for the replacements to be able to stand on their own as characters and not be compared to the previous ones.

Because remember how brilliantly that worked for Dragon Ball with Gohan and Goten?

Dragonball was already too big at that point. Probably wouldn't have been so bad if he didn't wait until chapter 400 to change the protagonist

Toriyama lost interest in Gohan entirely on his own. His stint as protagonist only lasted five chapters before Goku came back.

Boruto could have been good, if it was written with the same care as Naruto
Of course, Naruto already strangled the setting and took out most of its potential, so maybe not.

The job of suits and editors is to stop authors from doing stupid shit

Bullshit. Their job is to make everything safe gray slop for easier profits. Only Torishima or Yahagi wrangled tards and improved the work.

Most Authors aren't that talented I assume. Too much love for their one and only protagonist. Even though sometimes you gotta sacrifice your character to evolve many refuse to do that and you get stuff like Naruto, one piece, bleach etc where the character stays the same for 20 years.
Araki being a madlad also introduced a completely new power system in part 3. He also allows characters to actually you know, die So every fight in jojo is more unpredictable and unique than anything in all the big shonens. You can always, always tell how a fight will end in Naruto, bleach, One-piece etc.

The counterpart is that it makes sense to focus in one plot/character, it is simple. Having multiple mc only makes sense in the context of shonen series that goes on long enough for it to matter. That's not Demon Slayer, for example. Even MHA is good as a self-contained story. When a story gets too long, that's when you start to wonder, "why not change MC?"
Anonymous No.283668841 [Report]
Araki took the plunge early and hedged his bets on a twist ending for Part 1, and it worked. Most authors worry about staying afloat in a cutthroat market.

HunterxHunter just sorta decided Gon's story arc was done at some point and retired him. He wasn't appeared in the series in 11 years.

Using ninja as tools stopped immediately after Land of Waves. What made it so great narratively was these idealistic boys with dreams were forced to kill each other just because of a business monopoly. Naruto and Sasuke were in way over their heads as novices to prove themselves fighting the worst kind of elite bloodthirsty assassin money could buy just to prevent a trade route being built, which means they could barely afford just them even after lying about threat level.

1. People will be fucking pissed if the new protagonist isn't far better than the last. Like kill a series pissed
2. If the new protagonist shares the same story and not the just the same continuity it undercuts the achievements of the last

Not relevant but it's Jojo's power systems that solves power creep. Even a hamon user could take that guy out because despite being able to summon meteors he cans till be taken out by say a gun
