Art can be explained by physical constraints, reused panels are fine for efficiency and can even be used for artistic effect like pic related. Cliffhanger issues are simply a matter of reader patience. Exposition (aka telling) is another tool for efficiency to move the story along more quickly, there's a reason Star Wars has that opening crawl explaining the situation before we head into the first scene. Etc etc.
